SCALA2: The Complete Homeowner's Guide

Whether you are dealing with a trickling upstairs shower or planning a multi-bathroom renovation, the SCALA2 is the industry standard for boosting water pressure in the UK.

 SCALA2 Booster Pump

What is the SCALA2 used for?

In the UK, the SCALA2 is primarily used as a Whole-House Pressure Booster. Its main purposes include:

  • Maintaining Constant Pressure: Keeps shower pressure steady even if someone else opens a kitchen tap.
  • Boosting Mains Water: Pulls weak incoming water to provide a strong 3-bar experience.
  • Multi-Story Lifting: Capable of pushing water effectively up to 3 floors high.

How to Install the SCALA2: A Step-by-Step Guide

The SCALA2 is designed for "Plug & Pump" installation, meaning most of the complex electronics are pre-configured. However, to ensure your 5-year UK warranty stays valid, follow these specific steps carefully.

🛠️ Tools & Parts Required:

  • ✅ Adjustable Wrench
  • ✅ Pipe Cutter (Copper or Plastic)
  • ✅ 2x Full-Bore Isolation Valves
  • ✅ PTFE Thread Tape
  • ✅ 1.7L Water (for Priming)
  • ✅ Flexible Braided Hoses (Optional)
⚠️ UK Water Regs Check: If connecting to the mains, the law states you must not draw more than 12 litres per minute directly. If your pump needs more, you must install a "Break Tank" (a cold water storage tank) before the pump.
Step 1: Choose the Right Location

Placement & Vibration Control

Place the pump on a solid, level surface like a concrete floor or a sturdy wooden base. Because the SCALA2 is water-cooled, it doesn't need a noisy fan, but it does need a little air to breathe.

Expert Tip: Ensure the pump doesn't touch the kitchen cupboard walls. Even a tiny gap prevents "vibration hum" from echoing through your house.

Step 2: Plumbing Connections

Inlet & Outlet Pipes

The SCALA2 has 1-inch adjustable inlets/outlets. We recommend using flexible braided hoses to connect to your home's 15mm or 22mm copper pipes. This makes the installation much easier and further reduces noise.

Don't Forget: Install a "Full-Bore" isolation valve on both sides. This allows you to turn off the water to the pump for maintenance without turning off the water to the whole house.

Step 3: Priming (The Most Important Step)

Filling with Water

Never turn the pump on while it is dry. This will burn out the internal seals. You must "prime" it first:

  1. Unscrew the large black priming plug on the top.
  2. Slowly pour roughly 1.7 to 2 litres of clean water inside until it overflows.
  3. Screw the plug back on tightly by hand.
Step 4: Power & Pressure Setup

Turning it On

Plug the unit into a standard 3-pin UK socket. The lights will dance on the control panel. By default, it is set to 3.0 bar. If your upstairs shower still feels a little weak, simply press the (+) button on the pump to increase the pressure. Most UK homes find 3.0 to 3.5 bar is the "sweet spot".

Where to Buy the SCALA2 in the UK

Pricing typically fluctuates between £450 and £520. We recommend buying from established trade merchants for full warranty support.
